Mountain Named Swainsboro Technical College Administrative/Business Office Technology Instructor

Dr. Richard Thornton, Vice President of Academic Affairs at Swainsboro Technical College, announced that Karen Henry Mountain has been named as Swainsboro Technical College’s Administrative/Business Office Technology Instructor as of July 1, 2007.

She is the daughter of John and Amy Henry of Metter. She and her husband, Jimmie, live in Swainsboro.

Mrs. Mountain graduated from Metter High School; received a Diploma in Accounting from Swainsboro Technical College; an Associate of Applied Science Degree, Business Administration, and an Associate of Arts Degree, Business Education from East Georgia College; Bachelor of Science, Business Education, and a Master of Education, Business Education, from Georgia Southern University; Microsoft Office User Specialist Master; Authorized Instructor for the Microsoft Office User Specialist Program; IC3—Internet and Computing Core Certification; Leadership Dublin-Laurens graduate; and Executive Leadership Training Program graduate at Heart of Georgia Technical College.

She is a member of Phi Beta Lambda Professional Division, Pi Lambda Theta International Honor Society, Golden Key National Honor Society, and the Post 103 American Legion Auxiliary.

Prior to working at Swainsboro Technical College, Mrs. Mountain was a Business and Information Technology Instructor at Heart of Georgia Technical College in Dublin for the past thirteen years where she taught courses in the Business Office Technology and Computer Information System programs. Mrs. Mountain also served as the advisor for the Applied Business Technology diploma and degree programs. Prior to working at Heart of Georgia Tech, she was a business education teacher at West Laurens High School where she taught accounting and computer technology classes.

"Coming back to Swainsboro Technical College is like coming home," commented Mrs. Mountain. "I remember being a student at Swainsboro Technical College and receiving quality instruction from Mr. Buddy Lawson, my accounting instructor. In addition, I continued in technical education when I worked nine years with Mrs. Ann Lawson, retired V.P. of Students Services who was a great role model! I was always part of the family through the many years that my husband worked here as the Developmental Studies Instructor. I am excited about the opportunity of teaching here and looking forward to delivering quality instruction."

"I feel we are very fortunate to have Karen as an instructor. She is certainly qualified for this position and I feel she will be a real asset," commented Dr. Thornton. "I look forward to working with her."
