Lori Sweat Named Swainsboro Technical College Accounting Instructor

Dr. Richard Thornton, Vice President of Instruction at Swainsboro Technical College, announced that Lori Sweat has been named as Swainsboro Technical College’s Accounting Instructor as of March 27, 2007.

Mrs. Sweat is a graduate of Swainsboro High School, has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Georgia Southern University, a Master of Science in Professional Accounting from Strayer University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

She lives in Wrightsville with her husband, Dwain, and their 5 year old daughter Logan. Dwain is co-owner and manager of Sweat’s Portable Buildings Inc.; and Logan attends Brentwood School in Sandersville.

Prior to working at Swainsboro Technical College, Ms. Sweat held the position as Accounting Instructor for Southeastern Technical College for the past nine years. Her father, Buddy Lawson was the Accounting Instructor at Swainsboro Technical College for twenty-seven years before his retirement in 1997.

"I am really excited about coming to Swainsboro Technical College,"  said Mrs. Sweat. "It's one of those 'full-circle' moments in life.  It doesn’t seem that long ago that my brother Stan and I would come down to our dad's classroom on Swainsboro Tech’s campus to catch a ride home after school."  Incidentally, Stan is the Accounting Instructor at Sandersville Technical College.  "I'm honored to have the opportunity to continue Swainsboro Tech's tradition of commitment to technical education, while at the same time carrying on a family tradition."

"Lori is very enthusiastic about her program, and I feel we are very fortunate to have her as an accounting instructor. She will be a real asset to not only our Accounting program but also our college," commented Dr. Thornton. "I look forward to working with her."

Swainsboro Technical College Students Excel In National Competency Test

Swainsboro Technical College students took the CAAP (Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency) test and scored at or above the national mean when compared to freshmen and sophomores at other 2-year colleges. The sections are Writing including usage mechanics and rhetoric skills, Mathematics including basic algebra and college algebra, and Critical Thinking.

CAAP is an academic test designed to measure general education foundational skills typically attained in the first two years of college. CAAP test scores provide one way of estimating a student’s level of educational development. To receive a CAAP Certificate, a student must attain an achievement level at or above the national mean on the Collegiate Assessment of Academic Proficiency test.

"We are extremely proud of our students’ accomplishment," replied Dr. Richard Thornton, Vice President of Instructional Services.

Scoring at or above the national mean are Debra Edenfield, enrolled in the Criminal Justice Program; Melissa Crews enrolled in Early Childhood Education; Tanesha Edwards enrolled in Administrative Office Technology; Kevin Woods, enrolled in Networking; Angela K. Edenfield, enrolled in Microcomputer Specialist; David Morgan, enrolled in Forestry; Trina Fountain, enrolled in Forestry; and John Q. Price, enrolled in Criminal Justice.
